Spanish 5

Spanish 5 is an advanced level course that emphasizes further development of speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills in Spanish, while augmenting cultural studies through readings of modern Hispanic writers. Writing skills are strengthened on themes common to people of all ages (art, freedom, heroism, feelings and emotions, etc.) A variety of authentic Hispanic films, designed to enhance listening skills and appreciation of culture, are viewed. It is assumed that students have a good grasp of Spanish grammar before enrolling in the course.

In addition, Christian morality (i.e. honesty, respect for others and property, and working to one’s potential) and issues of social justice are also stressed. Prayers are learned in the target language, and religious topics related to the culture are discussed.

Students are expected to spend time outside of class studying and practicing the language. Additional help is available before and after school.
